India’s IT and software industry has remarkably evolved over the years into a powerful instrument propelling the nation’s economy. A NASSCOM-Deloitte study sheds light on the contribution of the IT industry to the country’s GDP: the IT/ITES industry contributes 5% to the national GDP as of 2008, rising from a mere 1.2% in 1998.
One of the factors motivating this IT growth is the export of software; it accounts for more than half of India’s total software revenue. Many multinational software firms are also drawn to India’s cheap skilled labor and superior technical competency and therefore have their offshore development centers in this country.
